ECCCA May 2009 Newsletter

President’s Message

I am pleased to report that after approximately 3 months of construction work to transform our association into a modern facility, our renovations have been completed.   I am so pleased to see the high level of participation and cooperation received from the membership in assisting with demolition, construction management, audio/video installations, moving and cleaning, etc.    I encourage you to take time from your busy schedule to visit the association and I assure you that you will like what you see.

A “Grand Opening” event to showcase the new facility is scheduled for June 13, 2009.   Details are described in this newsletter.   Official “Ribbon Cutting” will be held in conjunction with the Carrousel of the Nations on Saturday, June 20th at 1:00 p.m.   Representatives from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will join us for the dedication.  I invite all members to take part of this ceremony.

The upcoming community events include the Chinese Village on June 20th and 21st and the Canada Day parade on July 1.   We look forward to the membership’s participation and assistance.

Sincerely,

Stephen Tsui, P.Eng.

President

Building Committee Report

Many thanks to the members who assisted in moving back the furniture, books and kitchen items from the Thunder Food Court on Saturday, May 23rd and a total cleaning job at the association on May 24th.   Others were also busy in setting out the video and audio systems. There were a lot of laughter and fun (?).   They truly demonstrated their volunteerism in making the association a better place to serve the membership and the community.  Thanks go to:

Moving-back Team - Quang Kha, Ming Hui. William Hui, Jian Li, Allen Liu, Qitang Liu, Peter Lui, Mr. Leung, Danny Law, Ron Lam, Betty Lee-Daigle, Stephen Tsui, Ralph Wong, Li Zhang and Wei Zhang,

Building improvement fundraising is on-going and several thousands of dollars have been raised to date.   However this amount is well below our target of $50,000 since further improvement to the building exterior in order to give the association an identity is being planned.   Please give serious consideration to this important request.    Any amount of donation is appreciated.   A tax deductible receipt will be issued for each donation.    A list of donors will be published in the next newsletter.
